Latest Regulatory Update on Fluorocarbon Blowing Agents
Speakers:
- Rhoda Washington, Director Government Relations, Honeywell
- Mary Bogdan, R&D Fellow Honeywell Buffalo Research Labs
Since the use of CFC, there have been regulations at the state and federal levels that impact the use of fluorocarbon blowing agents in spray foam. Spray foam is ~97% gas by volume. The fluorocarbon gas in the foam is the key to the R-value you are selling. In the last year, there has been a lot of legislative activity around using fluorocarbon blowing agents in spray foam. SPFA and its members have actively participated in the regulatory efforts. This presentation will provide the latest update on state and federal regulations impacting fluorocarbon blowing agents used in spray foam and how you can actively participate in the legislative process.

Panel discussion - Understanding HFO Spray Foam
Honeywell panelist: Mary Bogdan, R&D Fellow Honeywell Buffalo Research Labs
Over the following nine months, spray foam manufacturers are converting closed-cell spray foam systems to low GWP products in response to new government regulations. HFO is a blowing agent designed to meet the new standards. However, performance and handling are different from the previous HFC systems. Understanding these differences will empower contractors to adopt new habits and arm them with the knowledge to be successful.
