Advanced Solvent Carbon Capture

Our Advanced Solvent Carbon Capture technology (ASCC) uses a proprietary solvent to capture over 95% of CO₂ from post-combustion flue gas,* providing flexible options for CO₂ utilization or permanent storage. Compared to other amine-based systems, ASCC enables lower regeneration energy and compression requirements, which can help limit investment and operating costs.

Polybed™ Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) System

Our Polybed™ PSA system is a versatile solution for selective gas purification. It is commonly used to produce high-purity hydrogen from syngas, and it can be designed to purify CO2. This makes it an integral solution for producing low-carbon hydrogen and its derivatives. With more than 1,150 units operating commercially since 1966, the Polybed PSA is a trusted fixture of gas processing.

Cryogenic Fractionation Technology

Our CO₂ Fractionation system uses temperature and pressure controls, along with proprietary refrigerants, to capture CO2 as a high-purity liquid product. The process is electrically driven with reduced equipment count and plot area compared to amine solvent solutions. It is ideal for applications like steam-methane reforming with medium or high CO₂ concentration.

CO2 Fractionation has been commercially demonstrated with more than 400 units operating in gas processing applications around the world.

Carbon Capture with Custom-Fit Solutions

Honeywell UOP offers multiple solutions to address the unique emissions from clinker production and related heat sources. Our Advanced Solvent Carbon Capture technology (ASCC) is well suited for low CO2 concentrations, or when there is an excess of waste heat.

For higher CO2 concentrations, a combination of our pressure swing adsorption (PSA) and cryogenic Fractionation technologies are an economic option to produce high-purity liquid CO2 that is ready for transport. These solutions can be powered by steam or electricity, and they can be configured in a variety of ways to be optimized for individual site conditions. 

For power generators using steam, combustion, or a combination, our solvent-based solutions are effective for capturing CO2.

Honeywell UOP’s Advanced Solvent Carbon Capture  technology (ASCC) can be optimized for large volumes of low-concentration flue gas, reducing parasitic energy loads with a patented heat exchange design for lower energy consumption in solvent regeneration. 

Carbon capture can help integrated steel producers significantly reduce blast furnace gas emissions while making fuel or to transition to electric arc furnace (EAF) or hydrogen-based direct reduced iron (DRI) methods. In some cases, hydrogen can also be recovered and sold as a co-product to enhance project economics. With solutions including ASCC, PSA, and CO2 Fractionation, Honeywell UOP is a single point of contact for carbon capture and hydrogen recovery solutions for steel.

Producing paper, household cleaners, and other vital products often generates large but predictable amounts of low-concentration carbon emissions. Our Advanced Solvent Carbon Capture technology (ASCC) gives you an efficient method of capturing CO2 from the heating equipment used in these processes.

Gaining Momentum With Industry Leaders

From Duke Energy’s large-scale flue gas capture to Calpine’s cutting-edge FEED study, Honeywell UOP’s solutions are helping industry leaders step toward the future.

Duke Energy selected Honeywell UOP technology for a DOE-funded project to capture 3.6 million tons of CO₂ annually at over 95% efficiency.* This FEED study represents a major step in advancing carbon capture for coal-based power plants.

Entergy and Crescent are set to develop and construct a $1 billion CCS project in Louisiana to capture up to 3 million tons of CO₂ annually. This will be one of the largest CCS projects in the U.S., permanently storing CO₂ from a natural gas power plant.

SK E&S is working with Honeywell UOP to deploy Advanced Solvent Carbon Capture technology (ASCC) at natural gas power plants across Korea and Southeast Asia. This initiative aims to accelerate the region’s transition toward lower-emissions energy.

Calpine selected Honeywell UOP for a FEED study at a natural gas power plant in California, exploring post-combustion CO₂ capture using Advanced Solvent Carbon Capture technology (ASCC). This project aims to reduce emissions and advance decarbonization in power generation.
